Government Nurses strike on Dec. 19
The Government Nursing Officers
Association (GNOA) yesterday said the Secretary of the Ministry of Health would
have to bear the responsibility of the inconvenience caused to the patients by
the trade union action of the nursing cadres.
Announcing that they would be
engaging in an islandwide token strike on December 19 for 24 hours, the GNOA pointed
out the wrong administration of the Ministry of Health was the main reason to
many problems caused in the nursing sector.“The Minister of Health has agreed
to grant our demands but the administration is not issuing circulars or
amending the gazette notices which gave powers for the Provincial Councils to
do 70% of the nursing recruitments,” explained Saman Rathnapriya, Chairman of
the GNOA.
